Patriots Choping Wood…No Major Upgrades Yet… Bodden Back In The Fold

The start of the 2010 uncapped free agency period was ushered in with a bunch of surprisingly aggressive moves from teams like chicago, and detroit…while owners dropped millions by the handful… Robert Kraft stuck to his game plan…Thus far there has not been anything in the way of improvement but the Pats most recently managed to lock up Corner Back Leigh Bodden… Bodden finished last season a different player than the one stuck on detroit the previous year…after Dunta Robinson….he is arguably the best available free agent corner in this free agency class….and after the Jets swindled the Chargers for Cromartie…The Pats had to resecure their corner….Earlier on this week they managed to reach an agreement with Vince Wilfolk in the range of a 5 year 40 million deal locking up our nose tackle for the long term…and possibly even more importantly…resigned Banta-Cain….who while at San Fran looked hopelessly lost…so here is what we got going for us….

Warren…..Wilfolk…..(?)
Banta-Cain…..Mayo…..Guyton…..(?)
(?)…..Meriweather…..(?)…..Bodden

So what we still need to be on the lookout for is a DE .. LB.. CB and Safety…. and thats just on the defensive side…Darren Sharper could be an interesting upgrade at Safety…but based on New Englands spending habits dont expect for them to reach very far…
Look for them to build through the draft….
On the offensive side…an immediate and glaring need is a versatile TE….with the departure of baker and the eventual loss of Watson…this pantry is empty… There had been talk about the Patriots trading for the Bears Olsen … that would solve this issues…Olsen can catch and block….where as Watson…was best at receiving….
We need an upgrade at wide receiver…a solid number 2 to spread the field for Moss and Edelman until Welker returns…Just say no to TO….but Derrick Mason could still have the skills to be a fit in this role…if not possibly thrive….
Finally we need one last major skill position and that is an upgrade at running back ….with LT being my choice…but let us not over look Thomas Jones… both can provide the punch necessary to make this rushing attack legit…
We can utilize the later rounds in the draft to shore up our weakness on the aging offensive line…but we must address these other issues or we will flounder in the realm of average for next season…
