Minors: Rain delay throws off a good start from Gerrit Cole

The GCL Pirates were the only affiliate with the day off on Sunday.

AAA – Indianapolis Indians (71-45) – Beat the Scranton/Wilkes Barre Yankees 7-2. Rick VandenHurk (11-3, 3.34 ERA) pitched seven innings, allowing two runs on four hits and striking out seven. Daniel McCutchen struck out three over two scoreless innings. Matt Hague (.295) went 1 for 4 and drove in two runs. Jeff Clement (.295) went 1 for 5 with a double and two RBI. Yamaico Navarro (.282) went 1 for 4 and drove in a run. Brandon Boggs (.267) went 2 for 4. Anderson Hernandez (.272) went 2 for 4 and drove in a run.

AA – Altoona Curve (54-59) – Lost to the New Britain Rock Cats 13-4. Gerrit Cole had his outing cut short by a rain delay. He pitched 4 2-3 innings, allowing two runs on three hits and striking out five. Mike Colla (4-5, 3.95 ERA) took the loss after giving up six runs on five hits including a grand slam in 1 2-3 innings. Jeff Inman gave up a three run home run of his own while allowing five runs on six hits in 1 1-3 innings. Infielder Drew Maggi was actually called upon to pitch in this game. Brock Holt (.322) went 3 for 4. Matt Curry (.288) went 1 for 4 and drove in a run. Jarek Cunningham (.220) went 1 for 4 with a solo home run, his fifth of the year. Quincy Latimore (.242) went 1 for 3 with a two run home runs, his 13th of the year.

High A – Bradenton Marauders (51-62) – Beat the Palm Beach Cardinals 10-7. Casey Sadler pitched 4 2-3 innings, allowing seven runs (six earned) on six hits and striking out three. Jhonathan Ramos (5-1, 4.15 ERA) got the win after striking out four in 2 2-3 innings. Zach Foster pitched 1 2-3 scoreless innings to pick up his fourth save. Gift Ngoepe (.251) went 2 for 4 and drove in a run. Mel Rojas (.254) went 1 for 4 and drove in two runs. Alex Dickerson (.300) went 2 for 4 with a double and two RBI. Carlos Mesa (.225) went 3 for 5 with a double, a triple, and an RBI. Justin Howard (.286) went 1 for 5 and drove in a run. Dan Grovatt (.258) went 2 for 3 with a double. Benji Gonzalez (.257) went 2 for 3.

Low A – West Virginia Power (48-66) – Beat the Lakewood BlueClaws 8-4. Robby Rowland (7-3, 3.36 ERA) pitched six innings, allowing two runs on five hits and striking out four. Robert Kilcrease pitched 1 1-3 scoreless innings. Nathan Kilcrease gave up two unearned runs on one hit in 1 2-3 innings to pick up his 10th save of the year. Willy Garcia (.253) went 2 for 4 with a two run home run, his 13th of the year. Dan Gamache (.286) went 2 for 3 with a double and two RBI. Jose Osuna (.279) went 2 for 4 with a double and an RBI. Francisco Diaz (.310) went 2 for 3 with a double.

SS – State College Spikes (25-22) – Lost to the Aberdeen IronBirds 10-9. Luis Heredia pitched five innings, allowing three runs on four hits and striking out three. Logan Pevny pitched a scoreless inning. Justin Ennis gave up three runs on four hits in 2-3 of an inning. Lance Breedlove gave up three runs on three hits in 1 2-3 innings. Thomas Harlan (2-5, 5.56 ERA) took the loss after allowing one run on three hits in 2-3 of an inning. Jacob Stallings (.276) went 1 for 3 and drove in a run. Derek Trent (.412) went 3 for 5 with a double and two RBI. Jesus Vasquez (.211) went 2 for 5 with a two run home run, his first of the year.
