Friday Night Smackdown: Philadelphia 2, Boston 0

At the start of the game, Ruiz was hitting .363, second to Rafeal Furcal of St. Louis. It was the Phillies sixth straight win. In the top of the ninth, Jonathan Papelbon faced his old teammates. Four batters later, Papelbon got his 12th save of the season. “We have got to come out here...

The Phils hold off a Cubs’ rally in the ninth to win their fifth straight game, and their sixth in seven games, as they defeat the Cubs, 8-7. The Phils took the lead in the first as, with two men on, and with two men out, Carlos Ruiz hits an RBI single, knocking in Jimmy Rollins, who had started the game off with a single, then moved up to second base on Juan Pierre’s slow ground out, 6-3, giving the Phils a 1-0 lead, while sending Shane Victorino, who had earlier walked, up to second base. The Cubs would tie the game up at one-all in their half of the first as, with a man on third, and with one man out, Starlin Castro hits a sacrifice fly, scoring David DeJesus, who had started off the inning with a double, then moved up to third on Tony Campana’s...
