2-time All-Star center Al Horford will miss at least three months due to a shoulder injury. The Atlanta Hawks’ center tore his pectoral muscle in the first quarter against Indiana on Wednesday.
The injury will most likely require surgery that would keep Horford out as long as four months. That means this injury could last until the middle of the playoffs, making this a deadly blow to the Hawks. The Hawks have made the playoffs the last four years, and if they hope to go deep in the playoffs this year, they’ll need Horford. He’s proven to be one of the best young centers in the league.
Horford, in his career, averages 12.8 points, 9.5 rebounds, and a block per game. He also shoots 54 percent from the field.
Horford will receive second opinions on his injury before he decides to undergo surgery. However, all projections show that the earliest he can get back is mid-April.
The Hawks have started the season 7-4 with wins against Miami and Chicago. They are 3rd in the Southwest division behind the Heat and Magic and 6th in the Eastern Conference. The Hawks play tonight against the Charlotte Bobcats in Atlanta at 7:30.
