Most real NFL fans are well aware of the lingering saga in Indy as they prepare for Super Bowl week. Here is the bottom line; the Colts, per their contract, owe Peyton Manning a $28 million roster bonus. The bonus is payable on March 8th.
Here are two facts;
First, Jim Irsay has zero interest in forking over that kind of cash to a 36 year old coming off of a major injury. More so because he has the first overall pick in the 2012 NFL draft and the highly touted Andrew Luck is sitting there. By the way, I don’t blame Irsay for his reluctance to sign Manning- great as he has been.
Secondly, Manning wants to be paid. Period.
So, that leaves the possibility of a trade. However, I find that highly unlikely. Manning undoubtedly has a no trade clause in his contract and would almost certainly nix any trade offered. Why wouldn’t he? Think about it; why would he want to take talent away from his future team?
So, the only thing to do is release him and move on, unthinkable as it may sound. The current sniping Back and forth between Manning and Irsay has a sort of Mickey Mouse feel to it.
